This scholarship brief is designed to be accessible to people from all backgrounds including applicants with no previous creative or design experience.

Rather than focusing purely on polished visual outcomes, we want to understand how applicants think, communicate ideas and respond to topics that matter to them personally. The emphasis should be on curiosity, perspective and creative problem-solving.

Applicants should explore an issue, challenge or topic they feel connected to or concerned about. This could relate to themes such as climate change, identity, equality, mental health, technology, politics, community or the future they want to help shape.

We encourage applicants to share their ideas in any format that feels natural to them. Whether that’s writing, sketches, photography, collage, storytelling, moodboards or simple visual concepts. No formal design training is required.

The goal of the brief is to encourage thoughtful, purpose-driven creativity and to give applicants an opportunity to show how ideas and design can be used to create positive impact in society.

We keep the application criteria very open so you can express your creativity! It’s more about showing us your personality and why you want to study at Shillington, so concentrate on the idea and don’t worry as much about the technical aspects. We want to see a fantastic idea, and to find out a bit more about your personality!

We hope to award scholarships to applicants with a wide range of identities and experiences. Underrepresented groups may include (but is not limited to) race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes. We recognise that underrepresentation manifests differently across circumstance, location and context, so we encourage applicants to self-identify and explain.

Scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of applications, we’re planning to provide 2 full scholarships for September study.

We recommend you enrol for the course as soon as possible to secure your spot, as spots can fill quickly and we don’t want you to miss out.

If your scholarship application is successful and you have already paid in full, we’ll refund you the difference!

Absolutely! We encourage you to apply even if you are already enrolled in a 2026 course. If your scholarship application is successful, we will refund any course fees you’ve already paid.

Successful applicants may enrol in the Full-time or Part-time September cohorts. Please note that enrolments are not transferable to any future course dates. In your application, you can indicate your preference for when would like to study.
